Employment Law Issues for Law Firms
This course focuses on a range of employment law issues affecting law firms. It has been structured according to the usual sequence of the employment relationship; from ‘hiring’, through to ‘firing’. The focus of this course is on anti-discrimination and equal opportunity in employment, and how law firms (as employers) can ensure that they comply with their obligations.
The course sets out the Federal and State legislative requirements relating to anti-discrimination and equal opportunity employment, with a particular focus on the framework in New South Wales. It provides a series of checklists which firms can use to help identify whether they are complying with their legislative obligations.
The course also explores a series of recent cases which illustrate the circumstances in which employee claims of discrimination may arise, how the courts deal with these claims and the consequences for the employer.
